Water Heated in a Microwave Can Violently Erupt and Cause Injury-Truth!

Summary of eRumor:

The writer of the email says his or her 26 year old son was scalded by water that erupted from a container after being heated in a microwave.  The son experienced severe burns.  The writer warns that water should never be heated by itself in a microwave and quotes a science teacher who says the eruption was because the water was heated in a new container that lacked scratches on the sides to allow bubbles to accumulate and be released.  The email also quotes a doctor who treated the injured son as saying that theses incidents are fairly common.

The Truth:
This has been a complex one to try to track down and we’ve consulted a number of different sources.  Here is our best understanding of the truth:
…As the millions of people who heat water in the microwave for coffee and tea can attest, this is not a common occurrence and we could find no record of injuries from it, although that doesn’t mean none has happened.
…When water is heated on a stove and reaches the boiling point, there are usually the characteristic bubbles that emerge from the bottom of the heated pan.  It would be easy, then, to think that all water boils like that when reaching the boiling point.  The problem is, that’s not always the case.
…It is possible to sometimes heat water beyond the boiling point but without the bubbles.   Why are there no bubbles?  When water reaches the boiling point, the water molecules need to start joining arms with other water molecules in order to create the bubble of vapor that we see as boiling.  In order to do that, some molecules need to all meet together at the same place and at the same time at what is called a “nucleation site.”   A nucleation site can be a tiny impurity, another air bubble, even a scratch on the surface of the container.
…So, here’s the scenario:  Some water is heated in the microwave and both the water and the container are clean enough that there are no nucleation sites.  The water temperature goes higher than the boiling point, but without “boiling.”  Not only that, but because of the way microwaves work, not all of the water in the cup is the same temperature.  The water lining the sides of the cup becomes heated, while some of the water toward the interior of the cup is cooler.

A real example of the story as it has been circulated:

IRS & Identity theft!!

சித்திரை திருநாள் வாழ்த்துக்கள்!!இந்த சர்வதாரி வருடம் இனிதே இருக்க ஆண்டவனை ப்ரார்திப்போம்!!!

I was reading something regarding tax,SSN which made to write this post!!The IRS(Internal Revenue Service) is the nation’s tax collection agency..

NINA OLSON head of the IRS taxpayer Advocate office, who reported to congress early this year that identity theft has emerged as one of the top problems facing taxpayers and said,”The IRS has no idea how many cases of identity theft exist”

Identity theft,is when someone uses our personal information such as name, Social Security number, or other identifying information, without our permission, to commit fraud or other crimes. It is a serious crime. Once identities have been stolen he/she may lose job opportunities, be refused loans, education, housing or cars, or even get arrested for crimes they didn’t commit.

phishing is one of the activity used for identity theft.According to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation’s consumer protection agency, phishers send an e-mail or pop-up message that acts as an organization that the one who lost his identity may deal with. The message may ask to “update,” or “confirm” the account information. Some phishing e-mails threaten if he/she don’t respond. The messages direct to a Web site that looks just like a legitimate organization’s site. But it isn’t. It’s a fraud site whose purpose is to trick one into opening the personal information so the operators can steal the identity and run up bills or commit crimes.

The IRS uses the information, URLs and links in the suspicious e-mails to trace the hosting Web site and alert authorities to help shut down the fraudulent sites.

To avoid becoming an victim,IRS have given some rules,go through the following image for more details:):)

safety measures!!

If one’s SSN is stolen,it can be used by other individual to get a job who is actually an undocumented worker!! Read the rest of this entry »

History from Grandpa

Today was talking with grandpa..he was telling about our past history regarding freedom struggle , before and after freedom status of our INDIA..Actually I was asking him about “Viduthalai Puligal Issue”..so he just started telling the story..We are Lucky and Its really great to live in modern India..In past days there were no basic facilities available..like what a normal person having now..Before England gave freedom for us,there was a great story..yes..like we asked for freedom in British too some Royal group asked for freedom and they won…So it made our Indian to ask for freedom strongly..Sir.Mr.E.V.R explained the british people that the problem is same here and to that Royal group so you have to give freedom for us..All our great leaders said the same..finally British people accepted to give freedom for us and asked Indian people to decide the leaders and ministers..That time started Hindu-Muslim problem and hindu’s from Pakistan are asked to go to India and muslim’s from India they themselves started moving to Pakistan..Leaders got disappointed..Mr.Muhhmad Ali Jinnah strongly asked for separate country as Pakistan ..even Our Father of Nation,Nehruji and other leaders asked Jinnah to be leader of whole India and not make separation as India & Pakistan he didn’t accept that….Finally We got freedom and Pakistan too…What I told here is inferred from my grandpa’s speech…

Art of writing..

Being in vacation holidays i used to read  many newspapers  …found the writers art of writing the same news in a very different manner..if the matter is related to current govt and the person who is saying comments related to same party it was described in good manner in one paper and entirely different in other paper …and the same holds for other non govt issues also…what an art!!!the thing is the public who is following a single newspaper not able to get the news correctly…same holds in TV news tooo…simply saying its hard to find the truth since it was hidden among many false matters..Who will take care of public..Ofcourse no one has time to take care of these issues…:(:(
